Job Announcement: Pre-ESOL/Native Language Literacy in Spanish Instructor

Holyoke, Massachusetts

Start Date: September 1, 2015  


  • Teach three levels of Pre-ESOL Literacy/Native Language Literacy in Spanish classes: GLE 3-5; GLE 6-9; GLE 10-12 (HiSET prep)
  • 26 hours/wk (includes prep time); classes meet Monday-Thursday 9:00 AM-2:00 PM
  • Salary: $20.50/ hr.; annual employment benefits include paid holidays, vacation, sick days, health insurance
  • Long term employment opportunity; potential for additional grant funded hours 


  • Bilingual Spanish/English with native Spanish fluency
  • Masters Degree and two years experience teaching Adult Basic Education (ABE)/HiSET prep (preferred), or
  • Bachelors Degree+ teacher certification and 3 years teaching experience (minimum)
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication and technology skills
  • Ability to teach a learner-centered ABE/HiSET curriculum in Spanish incorporating computer literacy, basic arithmetic up to algebra, writing, reading, social studies, and science.
  • Commitment to participate in free professional development and program development
  • Ability to work effectively and flexibly with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body


  • Experience administering standardized assessments (Best+,TABE Clas-E, MAPT, etc.)
  • Familiarity with DESE/ABE Curriculum Frameworks and/or College and Career Readiness Standards
  • Experience teaching students with special educational needs
  • Experience working in an inner city ABE program
